The Japanese House popped over to Fortune Sound Club last night for a show with special guests Art School Girlfriend.
The headliners kicked off their show with upbeat renditions of “Face Like Thunder” and “We Talk All The Time” that made for far more dancing than the recordings ever could. The Imogen Heap-esque harmonies and surreal synth pop came across with a strong bassline and heavy beat bringing a certain energy and movement to the venue that one might not expect out of them. Bigger hits like “Saw You in a Dream” and “Maybe You’re the Reason” warranted excited cries from the crowd as the lead singer stepped back to let them carry the lyrics.
Ending on a slower note with the harmonies and soundscapes of “Leon” and “Worms”, one could feel the music well up with an air of calm contentment. After “Clean” and a big thank you they were on their way, off to grace another audience with their ambient composition and lively basslines.
