Vancouver, BC - Special guest Boogie accompanied Joey Bada$$ on the Vancouver stop of The Amerikkkana Tour and opened up with unparalleled energy, even inviting a random audience member on stage to freestyle.
The fully warmed up crowd was ecstatic when Joey’s set was finally revealed, a war scene complete with barbed wire and a sandbag fort for the DJ. After an energetic start with “Rockabye Baby” and “Ring The Alarm” Joey removed his jacket to reveal a bulletproof vest, in keeping with the carefully constructed theme of the entire performance.
The lighting kept everyone on their toes and even light pyrotechnics were involved. These visuals paired with an uninterrupted stream of songs made for an unstoppable energy, to which Joey finally paused to give a shoutout to all the “real ones in the building” and request to “blow the roof off” with more energy.
The music continued with older jams from his album 1999 like “Hardknock” and “Waves”, and then moves into newer numbers “Temptation” and “Land Of The Free”. A highlight was the politically charged “Babylon” performed alongside blue and red flashing lights, followed by Joey dedicating the next song, “On & On”, to all the fallen soldiers.
The use of lighting, explosives, and brilliant lyrics made this a well-rounded and unforgettable experience, spreading a productive message in a powerful way.
